Coping with Death Scale Short Version: Turkish adaptation, validity and reliability study

Coping with death is a significant construct that influences healthcare professionals and nursing students, and is linked to mental health and care quality. This study evaluated the psychometric properties of the Turkish version of the Coping with Death Scale–Short Version (T-CDS-SV). This descriptive and methodological study included 472 nursing students. Data were collected face-to-face from October 2024 to May 2025. Psychometric properties were evaluated using internal consistency, factor analysis, convergent validity, and test-retest reliability. Confirmatory factor analysis indicated a good model fit (χ2 = 54.104, df = 23, χ2/df = 2.352, CFI = .96, GFI = .95, IFI = .96, TLI = .94, RMSEA = .07). The scale demonstrated good internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.833) and acceptable test-retest reliability (ICC = .772). The nine-item, single-factor structure of the T-CDS-SV aligned with the original version, confirming its validity and reliability in assessing coping with death.
