Visible‐Light Cobalt‐Catalyzed Synthesis of Aroyl Amides From Arylazo Sulfones

A versatile strategy leveraging the peculiar reactivity of arylazo sulfones as substrates bearing dyedauxiliary groups in arylation processes, combined with the catalytic activity of Co 2 (CO) 8 in carbonylation reactions, enabled the efficient synthesis of aromatic amides. The present approach was successfully applied to the preparation of a library of aroyl amides (33 examples), showing broad functional‐group tolerance. The desired products were obtained in discrete to excellent yields (42%–99%) under photocatalyst‐free conditions through a robust, simple, and rapid protocol that takes advantage of relatively low CO pressures (10 bar).
