Plant Crude Polysaccharide‐Enabled Hydrogel Electrodes for Long‐Term Stable EMG Recording

ABSTRACT Conductive hydrogels with high conductivity, flexibility, skin compatibility, and long‐term stability are essential for reliable bioelectrical signal recording in flexible bioelectronic interfaces for wearable health monitoring and human‐machine interaction. However, additive‐based enhancement often disrupts the intrinsic hydrogel network, leading to trade‐offs among conductivity, flexibility, biocompatibility, and long‐term stability. To address this challenge, we propose a conductive hydrogel formation strategy based on the endogenous synergy of plant‐derived polysaccharides. As a representative system, we constructed a gelatin/PCA‐Na hydrogel incorporating safflower crude polysaccharides, which was denoted as GPP. Plant‐derived polysaccharide systems contain abundant hydrophilic groups and active components, including phenolic and ketone groups, which introduce multiple hydrogen bonds and non‐covalent interactions into the hydrogel network. As a result, GPP exhibits strong overall performance, with an adhesion strength of 50.1 kPa and a conductivity of 6.3 S m −1 . Moreover, it enables repeated EMG recordings during 7‐day continuous wear, with the signal‐to‐noise ratio remaining above 30 dB, indicating stable skin contact and reliable signal output. In addition, the endogenous synergy mechanism was extended to Prunella vulgaris crude polysaccharides. Overall, this work provides a plant‐derived endogenous synergy route toward safe, comfortable, and long‐term wearable bioelectronic interfaces.
