Synergistic In-N bonding boosts ionic conductivity in Li3InCl6 for all-solid-state batteries

Halide solid electrolytes have emerged as attractive contenders for all-solid-state batteries due to their desirable electrochemical stability and high Li + transport ability. Among them, Li 3 InCl 6 has achieved a moderate Li + conductivity around 1.0 mS cm −1 , which still requires further improvement. The anionic framework of LIC inherently restricts Li + transport pathways. Herein, we incorporate nitrogen into the LIC lattice, creating In-N bonds that exert an attractive-boosting synergistic effect on lithium ions, thereby accelerating their migration. With nitrogen doped into the LIC lattice, the local ionic coordination environment is simultaneously modified and the charge carrier concentration is increased, collectively boosting the Li + conductivity to 2.31 mS cm −1 . The assembled Li-In|LPSC|LICN 0.25 |LPSC|Li-In symmetric cell exhibited stable cycling for over 1000 h and achieved a critical current density of 4.0 mA cm −2 . The assembled LCO|LICN 0.25 |LPSC|Li-In full cells deliver durable cycling for over 500 cycles at 0.5C. This discovery provides new insights into modulating the ion-transport process within LIC solid electrolytes.
