Kaufman multicusp ion source beam profile measurements in MBM100 ion beam mixing device

A compact one–dimensional linear wire scanner was designed, constructed, and tested for measuring the transverse beam current distribution of the Ar⁺ ion beam extracted from the MBM100 source. The system employs a tensioned tungsten wire that is swept across the beam to provide a direct profile of the collected current as a function of position. The scanner was developed as a simple and low‑cost diagnostic tool for routine monitoring of the extracted beam in low‑energy laboratory facilities where commercial profile monitors are not readily available. Performance tests were carried out by scanning the Ar⁺ beam under several operating conditions of the discharge. The recorded profiles show a stable beam shape. The results demonstrate that the scanner can reliably track changes in the extracted current and beam width as the discharge voltage and extraction settings are varied. The device provides a practical diagnostic solution for characterizing ion beams in the MBM100 system and similar low‑energy sources.
