Respiratory synergies in the structure of post-isometric and post-reciprocal relaxation: clinical observations from practice

The article describes the clinical experience of using a three-phase respiratory scheme when performing post-isometric relaxation (PIR) and post-reciprocal relaxation (PRR) – a method mastered by the author directly at the department of Professor G.A. Ivanichev. The scheme is as follows: calm inhalation through the nose (2-3 seconds) – breath retention (3-5 seconds) – slow exhalation through the mouth (4-5 seconds). Clinical observations, that are based on thirty years of practice, demonstrate that the inclusion of this scheme in the structure of PIR and PRR improves the depth and sustainability of neuromuscular relaxation. A comparison is given with foreign approaches to PIR, where the controlled respiratory synergies in this form are not used. It is suggested that the three-phase respiratory scheme is the original contribution of Professor G.A. Ivanichev, and it is worthy of a separate study.
