A Three-Layer Architecture for Human-Interpretable Machine Reasoning.
Abstract Modern AI solvers can generate correct solutions to complex problems, yet their internal reasoning remains inaccessible to human decision‑makers. This document proposes a modular architecture designed to make advanced machine reasoning transparent and interpretable. The system consists of three coordinated layers: a Solver, which performs high‑speed reasoning; a Trace System, which reconstructs the solver’s full reasoning path into a structured map; and an Interpreter, which translates that map into human‑understandable concepts, narratives, and implications. While solver systems already exist in early form, the trace and interpreter layers remain undeveloped. This proposal outlines the missing components required to build an integrated, human‑interpretable reasoning pipeline and establishes a foundation for future research, collaboration, and development.
