PROFITABILITY AND COST STRUCTURE OF FARMS IN THE SORGHUM VALUE CHAIN

Based on a 2025 survey of 98 sorghum farms in Karakalpakstan and the Tashkent region, this study analyses the profitability and cost structure of farms engaged in sorghum production for grain and green mass. The results indicate that profit per hectare reached UZS 23.7 million for grain production and UZS 16.6 million for green mass production. Harvest losses on grain-producing farms amounted to 11.1%, corresponding to an estimated reduction in potential income of UZS 3.7 million per hectare. Based on the findings, practical measures are proposed to improve harvesting efficiency, reduce harvest losses, and develop storage capacity, thereby creating additional opportunities to strengthen the profitability and efficiency of farms within the sorghum value chain.
