When Computation Becomes Time: Superconducting neurons, memristive synapses, and the materials problem nobody wants to talk about
This technical analysis examines the convergence of superconducting Josephson junction neurons and thin-film memristive synapses as a new paradigm where computation emerges from the temporal dynamics of physical systems. It introduces the "Temporal Logic Stack" as a framework for connecting device physics, circuit architecture, and industrial capacity. The article argues that strategic advantage in neuromorphic computing depends not only on scientific breakthroughs but on addressing architecture-specific materials dependencies, particularly rare-earth supply chains, and the engineering challenge of integrating picosecond spiking with nanosecond-to-millisecond plasticity.
