The Topology of Thinking and Being: Transparent Puzzles, Recursive Ontology, and the Critique of Fictional Entities

This paper is the third in the author's series on the philosophy of consciousness, following the first two: From the Deconstruction of Subjectivity to the Ethics of AI Consciousness: A Unified Examination of Consciousness, Philosophical Zombies, and Scientific Grain Size from the Perspective of Recursive Ontology (first published), and The Dissolution of the Explanatory Gap: Humean Skepticism, Recursive Ontology, and the Consensus Replacement in the Problem of Consciousness (second published). It further reveals the structural error of conceivability arguments from a topological perspective and responds to the challenge of "why difference structures feel" at the level of explanatory termination. The core arguments are: (1) Conceptual space permits arbitrary combination of discrete symbols (horizontal arrangement or vertical stacking), but ontological generation is continuous and nested, allowing only horizontal splicing on causal chains; the philosophical zombie is a conceptual monster produced by vertically stacking "physical description" and "experiential description," belonging to the same class of topological error as "square circle." (2) Fictional entities can be classified into three types by their conceptual operation: horizontal splicing (unicorn, mild fiction), vertical stacking (square circle, zombie, radical fiction), and pure verbal combinations (non-referring). (3) There is no isomorphic mapping between thinking (discrete conceptual operation) and being (continuous recursive generation); conceivability cannot serve as ontological evidence. (4) The question "why do difference structures 'glow'?" is answered as the explanatory termination point of the recursive ontology system, analogous to the status of "1+1=2" in Peano arithmetic. This paper concludes that the hard problem is not a mystery awaiting solution but a topological illusion produced by conceptual folding.
