Investigating the military-related resilience of the Hungarian railway infrastructure to climate change by defining a multidimensional climate index
Rail transport, as a sub-sector ensuring the operation of supply chains, is affected by the impacts of climate change, while infrastructure damages caused by extreme weather conditions may influence the realization of both civilian and military mobility processes. The maintenance of railway infrastructure operability and resilience is supported by protective solutions designed to respond to the effects of climate change. This paper presents a method for determining a multidimensional railway climate indicator, through the analysis of extreme weather conditions in Hungary, the application of which facilitates the development of protective measures. Incorporated into the Railway Defense Security Index (RDSI), it can provide an overview of the climate change-related exposure of railway lines and the extent of the required protecting interventions.
