New Yorkers with mental disabilities face loss of Medicaid
On September 3, Medicaid recipients in New York received a letter required by the federal government informing them that they would lose their coverage on January 1 if they do not satisfy work requirements, volunteer for 80 hours a month or go to school or participate in job training at least 80 hours a month. Exemptions did not list mental disabilities unless the person is enrolled because of a disability or “living with a health condition that significantly limits your ability to meet this requirement.”
