A Review on the Phytochemical and Pharmacological Properties of Tectona grandis Leaf Extract

AbstractTectona grandis, commonly known as teak, has been used in several traditional medicinal systems inaddition to its established value as a timber species. A broad range of phytoconstituents, includingalkaloids, phenolic compounds, glycosides and steroids, has been reported from the plant.Considerable scientific attention has subsequently been directed towards the isolation, characterizationand biological evaluation of its active constituents. Different parts of the plant have been investigatedfor antioxidant, antipyretic, analgesic, hypoglycemic, wound-healing, cytotoxic and otherpharmacological effects. The available evidence has been reviewed to consolidate information onphytochemistry, analytical approaches, biological evaluation, toxicological observations, allergicreactions and patent-related developments. The compiled information may also be used to identifyresearch gaps and support the design of future investigations.
