Mapping the influence of artificial intelligence on the Ecuadorian judicial system from a human rights perspective. A scoping review

The objective was to map the existing scientific, regulatory, and doctrinal evidence on the influence of artificial intelligence on the Ecuadorian judicial system, with an emphasis on its relationship with the protection or possible violation of human rights. The methodology consisted of a scoping review, analyzing 16 articles that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The results show the artificial intelligence applications most frequently reported or proposed in the Ecuadorian justice system, the effect of artificial intelligence on human rights, and the risks of its adoption without specific regulations. It concludes that the immediate challenge for the Ecuadorian judicial system is to build a comprehensive legal framework for algorithmic governance, based on international human rights standards, in order to guarantee the transparency, explainability, and institutional accountability of artificial intelligence systems and thus minimize risks to the principles of due process, equality before the law, and effective judicial protection.
