Data re-use in digital editions (preprint)
In this paper we address re-use of digital editions data as a machine-actionable or machine-assisted process. This process is not well-studied and data re-use in general is hard to track. Anecdotally, re-use of editions data rarely takes place despite excellent potential and counter to the fact that re-usability is established as a key part of the FAIR principles. We set out to better understand the state of data re-use within the scholarly editions community and adjacent sub-disciplines of digital humanities by interviewing thirteen stakeholders from different parts of the sector. The semi-structured interviews permit us to propose an outline for a basic understanding of data re-use in digital editions and pathways for how it may be improved.
