700 Proofs ≠ 700 Proofs
Large language models have created an emergency in open science. People now usemachines to generate unverified papers by the thousands, dumping this junk ontofree archives. Servers like arXiv were built to share genuine discoveries. Today,multi-billion-dollar corporations exploit that free public access, treating academicservers as cost-free testing grounds for promotional claims. Many observers wantto clean up this digital landfill by charging submission fees. That cure is worsethan the disease. A small fee locks out poor and independent researchers, while awealthy corporation barely notices the pocket change. Charging money harms thevery foundation of open research.
