A new hypogeous fungal species located in Cantabria (Spain): Pachyphlodes cantabrica (Pezizaceae, Pezizales)

A new species of hypogeous fungus, Pachyphlodes cantabrica, found with the aid of trained dogs in a Fagus sylvatica forest at the Saja-Besaya Reserve (Cantabria, Spain), is here formally introduced and described. Phylogenetic studies based on concatenated ribosomal sequences (ITS and 28S rDNA) confirmed that it belongs to genus Pachyphlodes, and suggest it is sister to P. conglomerata.
