In Case You Haven't Heard…
To the ever constant complaints that methadone is hard to get because patients have to go to the clinic every day, this is a reminder: They don't. For years, patients have been able to access the medication on a take‐home basis for a month, and even for up to two weeks, even if they are unstable. In addition, there are an increasing number of mobile vans. Leading the way is CODAC Behavioral Healthcare, which just recently brought its mobile van to the coastal town of Westerly, Rhode Island, which Taylor Swift calls home. We have been to this beautiful town. Like all beautiful towns, it has people with opioid use disorder who need treatment. Let's champion programs like this instead of trying to take down the entire methadone treatment system. Thanks to Linda Hurley and her team at CODAC. For more on the program, go to https://alisonknopf.substack.com/ . Could access to methadone be easier and simpler? Yes. It would help if people would stop badmouthing the treatment.
