Occupational Accidents and Work-Related Health Problems Among Subcontractor Welding Workers at an Industrial Port: A Cross-Sectional Study

Objective: To assess occupational accident history and work-related health problems among subcontractor welding workers. Methods: A cross-sectional questionnaire survey was conducted among 126 workers at Filyos Port, Türkiye, in October 2024. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and chi-square tests. Results: Overall, 62 workers (49.2%) reported at least one occupational accident during their working life, and 77 (61.1%) reported work-related health problems. Electric shock was the most common accident type (32/62; 51.6%). Professional experience was not significantly associated with work-related health problems. Conclusions: Occupational accidents and health complaints were common in this workforce. Findings highlight the need for workplace prevention, personal protective equipment use, and health surveillance. Interpretation is limited by the cross-sectional design, self-reported outcomes, and single-site setting; causation cannot be established.
