Transnational entrepreneurship in business and management: A unified bibliometric analysis
Transnational entrepreneurship (TE) has gained increasing attention in business and management over the past two decades; however, the field remains fragmented due to diverse theoretical perspectives and interdisciplinary boundaries. Despite this growing interest, there is a lack of quantitative bibliometric surveys that provide a unified view of TE's evolution within the business and management domain. This study addresses such a gap by conducting a bibliometric analysis of 77 TE articles published between 1999 and 2022 and indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection. The analysis offers an overview of existing knowledge by examining citation patterns, including the most influential papers, top-cited authors, leading journals, and prominent institutions and countries. Additionally, cocitation networks of references, journals, and authors are analyzed to trace the intellectual development of TE scholarship. Mapping conducted through VOSviewer reveals several distinct clusters. The study also raises the question of whether TE constitutes a distinctive research stream in business and management or remains primarily framed through the lens of migrants and their ventures in international contexts. Finally, we call for greater cross-fertilization across fields, increased cross-country collaboration, and propose several avenues for future research.
