Chemical constituents from the seeds of Celosia argentea L. and their chemotaxonomic significance
A phytochemical investigation of the seeds of Celosia argentea L. (Amaranthaceae) identified twenty-eight compounds, including six alkaloids ( 1-6 ), five flavonoids ( 7-11 ), five phenolics ( 12-16 ), two phenylpropanoids ( 17-18 ), one fatty acid ( 19 ), two lignans ( 20-21 ), and six triterpenoid saponins ( 22-28 ). Their structures were elucidated by NMR and MS data analysis together with comparison against literature values. Among them, compounds 1-7 , 9-10 , and 12-21 , 28 were isolated from Celosia argentea for the first time, while compounds 1-5 , 10 , 12-13 , 15 and 19-21 were newly reported within the family Amaranthaceae. The chemotaxonomic significance of these compounds was also discussed.
