Evolution of Capability Leadership: From Leading People to Enabling Organisational Capability in the AI Era
Evolution of Capability Leadership opens the seven-part Capability Leadership Series by examining how leadership enables people, collective judgement, work systems and technology to deliver reliable, responsible and sustained organisational outcomes.Drawing on NASA’s documented approach to capability leadership, the paper develops a broader interpretation for the AI era. It proposes a definition of Capability Leadership and examines the conditions through which expertise can be applied, decisions acted upon and capability sustained as work changes. The discussion connects leadership responsibility with human judgement, human–AI collaboration, workplace learning and TechnoEthics. Practical workplace examples help leaders consider how authority, access to expertise, coordination, oversight and opportunities for learning affect the outcomes their organisations depend on.CLS-01 establishes the conceptual foundation for the series and invites leaders and practitioners to examine what must change for organisational capability to be developed, applied, trusted and sustained.
