Formulation and Validation of Integrated Holistic Movement Practices Program for Adolescents from Diverse Backgrounds to Enhance Their Mental and Cognitive Well-Being
As adolescence is a crucial period of neurobiological and socioemotional development, it is vital to develop and implement interventions that promote their holistic growth and well-being. This study focused on the formulation and validation of the Integrated Holistic Movement Practices Program for Adolescents (IHMPP-A) from diverse backgrounds to augment their mental and cognitive well-being. The study proposes a theoretically coherent conceptual model to test the program's effectiveness in enhancing adolescent students’ mindfulness, mental health, and cognitive flexibility. The IHMPP-A is a school-based 12-week intervention program, comprising 12 different modules of evidence-based yoga postures, breathing exercises, and mindfulness practices. Each module is transacted weekly thrice in sessions of 60 min. The program content was validated by 14 experts using Lawshe's content validity ratio. Empirical validation showed significant gains in the experimental group in mindfulness, mental health, and cognitive flexibility. The findings indicate that the IHMPP-A is effective in promoting adolescents’ mental and cognitive well-being, and it could be incorporated into school curricula, bringing about an educational reform in the realm of student well-being.
