Liturgical and Traditional Prayers in the Armenian Amulet Rolls
This paper centers on the liturgical and traditional prayers found in Armenian amulet rolls ( hmayil / hamayil ) extant between the fifteenth to twentieth centuries, which present a window into the folk piety of the Armenian Christian tradition. Particular attention is paid to the prayers of St. Nersēs Šnorhali and St. Gregory of Narek found in the scrolls, with an explication of their contents and an explanation for their inclusion. Other liturgical and traditional prayers include the Our Father, the Creed, the Hail Mary as well as those to other saints and angels in the Christian tradition.
