From specialized centers to community care: expanding the reach of CAR T-cell therapy

In honor of Blood’s 80th anniversary, we are publishing a series of editorials titled “Evolving Paradigms in Hematology.” In the inaugural editorial, Deputy Editor Helen Heslop explores the evolution of commercial chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy from the first approvals in 2017 to administration at community transplant centers in 2026. Future developments will focus on reducing relapse and expanding access through shorter manufacturing times or in vivo delivery.
