The Effect of Online Dating Violence Psychoeducational Intervention on Emotion Dysregulation and Violence Perpetration Awareness of University Students in Türkiye

Dating violence perpetration is one of the psychological and social problems affecting university students. This study aims to examine the effect of a dating violence perpetration awareness program on university students’ emotion dysregulation and awareness of dating violence perpetration. The research employed an embedded mixed-methods design. The participants included 16 university students. Quantitative results showed a decrease in emotion dysregulation in the experimental group. This decrease persisted in the follow-up test conducted two months later. There was no change in the control group’s emotion dysregulation. When comparing the experimental and control groups, the study found that the experimental group had significantly lower levels of emotion dysregulation at the post-test. Qualitative results showed that the program contributed to reducing emotion dysregulation, increasing awareness of dating violence perpetration, and improving university students’ relationship skills. These research findings provide evidence regarding the feasibility and effectiveness of a dating violence perpetration awareness program.
