Client Satisfaction as a Mediator of Recovery Capital in Collegiate Recovery Communities

Collegiate Recovery Communities (CRCs) are university sponsored programs that help students maintain recovery from substance use issues. This study examined the role of CRC organizational factors on client satisfaction with CRC services (CS) and recovery capital (RC) in a sample of 162 CRC students ( M age = 27.01, 56% female). CS was significantly associated with perceived organizational mental health openness [ β = .23, p < .01], mental health attitudes [ β = .23, p < .05], and relapse attitudes [ β = .19, p < .01]. RC was positively associated with perceived organizational mental health attitude [ β = .29, p < .01] and CS was positively associated with RC [ β = .24, p < .01]. Significant indirect effects on RC through CS were found for three organization variables: mental health openness, mental health attitudes, and relapse attitude. Findings suggest fostering positive attitudes toward relapse and mental health within the CRC contributes to increased CS, thereby improving RC.
