Resilient Residential Architecture in Disaster-Prone Areas of Bangladesh: A Study of Flood and Landslide-Responsive Design Strategies
Abstract This research paper examines resilient residential architectural strategies for disaster-prone areas of Bangladesh, focusing on flood and landslide risks. The study presents two architectural case studies: a 1254 SFT flood-resilient house and an 828 SFT landslide-resilient building. The research focuses on practical architectural responses, including raised planning, water-management strategies, safety setbacks, a 10 ft hybrid wall, drainage planning, site-responsive design, and disaster-aware residential planning. The projects explore how architectural design can respond to environmental risks while maintaining practical and functional living conditions. The study aims to develop an understanding of practical and affordable architectural approaches that may contribute to safer residential environments in vulnerable areas of Bangladesh.
