Identifying the Factors Influencing Continuous Behavioral Intention toward Installation Art in Chengdus Urban Public Spaces.

Installation art has emerged as a mainstream strategy for animating public space amid rapid urban expansion; however, in Southwest Chinese cities such as Chengdu, critical questions persist regarding whether such installations systematically integrate spatial configuration, multisensory aesthetics, technological innovation, and other aspects to cultivate sustained social interaction across diverse user groups. This study integrated framework combining Experience Economy Theory, the S–O–R model, and the Expectation–Confirmation Model (ECM) was developed to test the relationships among eight constructs: esthetics, entertainment, innovation, spatial layout, confirmation, perceived value, satisfaction, and continuous behavioral intention. Using a quantitative design, 500 valid questionnaires were collected from frequent users across five representative urban districts in Chengdu. Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) were applied to validate the measurement model and test nine hypotheses. Results show that experiential factors significantly influence perceived value and satisfaction, while satisfaction and perceived value positively affect continuous behavioral intention, with satisfaction exerting the strongest total effect. The study extends behavioral intention theories to the context of urban public art and provides practical insights for enhancing socially sustainable public space design.
