Different Techniques Using for Fabrication of Mandibular Guiding Flange Prosthesis for Patients with Hemiglossectomy: A Case Report
Rehabilitation of patients following hemi glossectomy combined with radical neck dissection and radiotherapy presents a significant prosthodontic challenge due to mandibular deviation, loss of neuromuscular coordination, impaired mastication, speech difficulties, and compromised esthetics. This case report describes the prosthodontic management of a 58-year-old male patient diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of the lateral border of the tongue who underwent partial glossectomy, radical neck dissection, and postoperative radiotherapy. The patient presented with severe mandibular deviation toward the surgical side, completely edentulous mandibular arch, obliterated sulci, and functional impairment six months after surgery. A conventional mandibular removable complete denture with a detachable acrylic guide flange prosthesis was planned to restore mandibular guidance, improve functional efficiency and improved facial aesthetics. The prosthesis also contributed to psychological rehabilitation and improved patient confidence. This case highlights the clinical effectiveness of a detachable magnet-retained guide flange prosthesis in managing mandibular deviation and restoring oral function in edentulous patients after hemi glossectomy and radiotherapy
