Consensus-Based Learning Objectives for PM&R Clinical Rotations
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) is a medical specialty that often gets less exposure during medical school rotations compared to other, larger specialties. In addition, there are limited standardized learning objectives available to guide the creation of PM&R clinical experiences. This study serves to address the existing gap in PM&R learning objectives for medical school clinical experiences, utilizing the modified Delphi process to reach consensus. Seven PM&R medical education leaders created a list of PM&R- specific learning objectives. Using the modified Delphi technique, a group of 16 medical student educators reviewed and modified the learning objectives to come to consensus. A comprehensive list of 75 final learning objectives were created for clinical medical school rotations in PM&R using a modified Delphi process. These learning objectives can be a starting point for medical educators in PM&R to define specific educational goals for their specific clinical rotations.
