Clinical outcome with surgical excision of jejunal adenocarcinoma in a 10‐year‐old Vietnamese pot‐bellied pig
Abstract A Vietnamese pot‐bellied pig was assessed for a 1‐week history of anorexia and at least 1 week of no defecation. Contrast‐enhanced abdominal computed tomography revealed a focal intestinal stricture with secondary chronic partial mechanical obstruction. Exploratory laparotomy revealed a 5‐cm mass incorporating the distal jejunum. Surgical resection and end‐to‐side anastomosis were performed. Histopathology revealed adenocarcinoma with goblet cell differentiation. The pig's appetite and defecation rapidly normalised, and the pig continued to do well at 353 days after surgery. This case report describes the first successful resection and anastomosis to treat small intestinal adenocarcinoma in a miniature breed pig.
