Finding, Counting, and Evaluating Scholarship Like a Librarian
Abstract In celebration of Agricultural History's centennial volume, this essay explores the journal's importance from the perspective of a librarian. Although not a detailed bibliometric analysis, it provides commentary on various metrics used to evaluate the scholarly importance of a journal. While the author explores a variety of metrics, it is use—a metric that is difficult to measure or quantify—that is the most revealing and of the most consequence. However, the simple longevity of Agricultural History and the Agricultural History Society are the true proof of the importance of the society and its journal.
