Integration of Dance Education in Musical Theater: A Means of Advocacy
Dance educators advocate for individual positions in dance and the dance field at large. As many schools support theater over dance programs, dance educators need avenues to integrate and advocate for dance in school curriculums. This action research project presents approaches to student learning through teaching methods based in musical theater dance. The project generates instruction ideas for students new to dance and expands on intricacies of musical theater choreography in K–12 settings. My goal is for students and the greater community to benefit from the creative and cultural outlet of musical theater lessons and performances. These experiences help dance educators and students advocate for dance programs in our schools.
