Determinants of Gender-Based Violence in Ecuador
This study analyzed the determinants of gender-based violence (GBV) in Ecuador using microdata from the National Survey on Family Relations and Gender Violence against Women. Binomial logit models estimated the probability of women experiencing any type of GBV and each type (psychological, physical, sexual, or economic and patrimonial). Results showed that childhood and adolescent violence experiences and partner-related conflicts were among the strongest predictors of women's likelihood of experiencing GBV, while gender roles and decision-making attitudes had a significant influence. Determinants varied across types of violence, suggesting that GBV has structural and cultural roots and highlighting the need for gender-transformative policies.
