The Metabolic Universe: A Research Program v1.2
Supermassive black holes are not terminal gravitational sinks. They are cyclic metabolic processors that dismantle baryonic matter into its subatomic baseline, compress the resulting 3D volume information onto a 2D horizon boundary, and periodically exhale the refined material back into their host galaxies as radial thermal filaments. The exhaled filaments cool, condense, and dissolve, dumping refined heavy elements into surrounding molecular clouds where they seed the next generation of star formation. The cycle repeats. This paper presents the framework as a unified structural cosmology. The substrate is not a field — it is a relational event: the coupling between emission and absorption in a null-separated geometry. Light does not travel; it is the availability of the substrate for coupling at the observer's local interface. Photons are events, not particles — points of reference by which an observer reads the state of the substrate. Gravitational lensing, Shapiro delay, frame dragging, and cosmological redshift are strain readouts of this availability, not trajectories of a traveling signal. Entanglement is the readout of one event through a coordinate grid that cannot represent relational events as local objects. The "Big Bang" is re-read as a strain limit, not a temporal beginning. The Eddington limit is reframed as a substrate threshold rather than a particle cap. The classical equation contains no photons — only a mass, a cross-section, and a rate. What it describes is the maximum flow the substrate can accommodate before it inverts. Beyond the threshold, the substrate converts absorption into expulsion: the inward flow inverts, the vent opens, and the burn is not a collision of particles but a phase transition of the substrate itself. The framework makes specific, falsifiable predictions. If structural shredding occurs at the roots of Sgr A*'s horizontal filaments, JWST NIRSpec Integral Field Unit spectroscopy should reveal four simultaneous signatures: a ≥10× drop-off in H₂ 1-0 S(1) surface brightness over 0.3 ± 0.2 pc; a 3–10× enhancement in the [Fe II]/[Ne II] ratio; a spatial anticorrelation between PAH 3.3 μm emission and [Fe II] at ≥2σ; and Br-α line broadening 2–5× the filament body value. Non-detection of all four falsifies the structural shredding hypothesis. Version 1.2 — Abstract refinement. Incorporates the Eddington-as-substrate-threshold reading into the abstract and adds the photon-as-event clarification. No other changes. Versions 1.0 and 1.1 remain available. Status. This is a self-published independent research program. It has not been peer reviewed, has not been submitted to any journal, and is not affiliated with any institution. The author does not seek conventional academic validation and does not require it for the framework to be considered on its merits. Standard physics is referenced and appreciated where relevant, but the framework is novel in many of its claims and is, in substantial part, unproven. That is the nature of new ideas. The predictions are specific, the falsification conditions are stated, and any reader — inside or outside the academy — is invited to test, critique, extend, or refute the framework. Corrections and refutations are welcomed. Silence is not. The universe breathes. We are inside one of its breaths.
