Outside Front Cover: Light‐Driven Out‐of‐Equilibrium Helicity Control in a Diarylethene–Helicene Photosystem
In the Research Article e5252700, Eric Sidler, Ben L. Feringa, and co-workers report a molecular energy ratchet driven by light. Photochemical ring closure enables rapid helix inversion toward the thermodynamically favoured state, while subsequent ring opening kinetically traps the acquired helicity. This sequence drives a diarylethene–[5]helicene photoswitch away from equilibrium, providing directional and persistent control over molecular helicity.
