Supporting children’s inner strength: a yoga-supported emotion regulation training program and psychological resilience

This study was conducted to examine the effects of an emotion regulation training program (EREP) and a yoga-supported program (Y-EREP) on the psychological resilience of children aged 5–6. The study sample consisted of 45 children aged 5–6 attending kindergartens affiliated with the Ministry of National Education (MoNE) in Ankara. A quasi-experimental design with pre-test and post-test measurements was employed, involving two experimental groups and one control group. Data were collected using a Personal Information Form and the Social-Emotional Well-being and Psychological Resilience Scale (PERIK). When compared to the MoNE curriculum, significant differences were observed in favor of the EREP experimental group regarding communication, task orientation, and the enjoyment of exploration; conversely, significant differences were found in favor of the control group regarding assertiveness and stress-coping skills. The findings revealed that the Y-EREP positively influenced children’s psychological resilience across all sub-dimensions of the scale.
