Museums as institutional creators: politics, practices & power

This article investigates how Danish and Norwegian museum staff perceive and articulate their communication on digital media and digital platforms. Based on qualitative interviews with different occupational identities at art – and cultural-history museums, the article describes the museums’ politics and practices regarding their presence on platforms and how museum professionals verbalise the advantages and disadvantages of digital communication. Theoretically, the article makes use of writings on digital museology, platform-driven cultural production and creator studies. Based on theoretical and empirical work, the article develops the notion of digital institutional creators and inspects how the emergence of this figure affects the politics, practices and power of museums.

Abstract
