Development of Interactive Augmented Reality Media for Science Education in Elementary Schools
Learning Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) in elementary schools faces challenges in presenting abstract ecosystem concepts, especially for third-grade students who need concrete and engaging learning experiences. Conventional media, such as textbooks and two-dimensional images, provide limited opportunities to visualize and explore ecosystem components. Therefore, innovative and interactive media are needed to support meaningful learning. This study aims to develop interactive Augmented Reality (AR)-based learning media for ecosystem material in third-grade IPAS learning. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the 4D model, consisting of Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate stages. Data were collected through classroom observation, expert validation sheets, and teacher and student response questionnaires. The results showed that the media obtained 77.78% from media experts and 82.50% from subject matter experts, indicating feasibility. Teacher responses reached 92.50%, while student responses reached 90.18%, indicating very positive responses. The AR media provides three-dimensional visualizations and interactive features that encourage student participation in elementary classrooms. Thus, the developed media is feasible and practical as supplementary IPAS learning media.
