Assessing the Impact of Hungarian Kin-State Funding in Southern Slovakia Delivered through Local Governments
This paper examines the challenges of Hungarian kin-state funding in Southern Slovakia through the lens of local governments, ethnic minority status, and prevailing allocation practices. A multiple-methods approach reveals that unilateral kin-state funding has an uncertain impact on the shortcomings of the socio-economic standing of Hungarians and institutionalised unequal accommodation. The findings highlight the prevalence of informal networks, pragmatic mayoral strategies, and ethnic party membership as the dominant factors shaping the accessibility of Hungarian kin-state engagement.
