Kualitas Semen Beku Sapi Simmental Dengan Metode Thawing Yang Berbeda
This study aims to determine the effect of different thawing methods on the post-thaw quality of Simmental cattle frozen semen, covering spermatozoa motility, viability, and abnormality. The research was conducted at the Laboratory of UPTD Balai Pembibitan Ternak, Department of Food Crops, Horticulture, and Livestock of Jambi Province. The material used consisted of 20 straws of Simmental frozen semen. The study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 5 replications. The treatments applied were P1 (31°C for 30 seconds), P2 (34°C for 25 seconds), P3 (37°C for 20 seconds), and P4 (40°C for 15 seconds). The observed variables included spermatozoa motility, viability, and abnormality. The data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), and if there was a significant effect, it was followed by Duncan's Multiple Range Test. The results showed that the thawing method had a significant effect (P<0.05) on spermatozoa motility and viability, but had no significant effect (P>0.05) on spermatozoa abnormality. The best treatment was obtained in P3 (37°C for 20 seconds) with a motility value of 54,00 ± 1,17%, viability of 64,60 ± 0,65%, and the lowest abnormality of 5,20 ± 0,57%. Treatment P4 (40°C for 15 seconds) resulted in the lowest motility and viability, while the percentage of abnormality across all treatments remained within the normal range for semen suitable for artificial insemination. Based on the results, it can be concluded that the thawing method at a temperature of 37°C for 20 seconds yields the best post-thaw quality of Simmental cattle frozen semen.
