A Technical Guide to Interpreting Screw Chiller Controller Parameters and Troubleshooting Operating Problems
This handbook provides a practical introduction to screw chiller operation, control, and troubleshooting. I developed it from training material to help HVAC technicians, maintenance engineers, and mechanical engineering graduates interpret controller readings and relate them to actual equipment conditions. It covers refrigeration fundamentals, operating sequences, compressor capacity control, pressure and current protection, condenser fans, electronic expansion valves, hot gas bypass, injection systems, water circuits, and sensor interpretation. Original diagrams, troubleshooting tables, and worked examples support the explanations. A dedicated chapter addresses four problems I encountered in the field: high discharge pressure, low suction pressure, unstable EEV operation, and misleading sensor readings. It explains relevant diagnostic checks while distinguishing possible causes from confirmed findings. The handbook uses general explanations without company or product identifiers. It is an educational technical reference; equipment-specific limits and service procedures must be checked against the applicable documentation.
