Study of the Combustion of RDF Pellets
The article investigates the combustion characteristics of refuse-derived fuel (RDF) pellets produced from municipal solid waste. Numerical simulations of RDF pellet combustion in a model burner were performed to determine the distributions of free-convection flow velocity, temperature, and concentrations of the main gaseous components, including the combustion products, within the burner. The effects of the combustion chamber geometry, particularly its height, on the temperature and concentrations of gaseous combustion products at the burner outlet were also investigated. The results show that, for the same amount of pellet fuel, increasing the burner height leads to a decrease in the gas temperature at the burner outlet and an increase in the concentration of combustion products. The results obtained provide a basis for developing measures to improve the combustion efficiency of RDF.
