Reduction of Traumatic Unilateral Anterior Condylar Dislocation - A Case Report
Abstract Rationale: Traumatic unilateral anterior dislocation of the mandibular condyle is a rare maxillofacial injury that presents diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. It usually results from high-impact trauma, such as road traffic accidents (RTAs), and is frequently associated with concomitant fractures. Patient Concern: Patient complained of inability to close the mouth. Diagnosis: Clinical examination and radiological examination confirmed the diagnosis of unilateral left mandibular condyle dislocated anteriorly. Treatment: Closed reduction by digital manipulation was done under local anaesthesia. Outcomes: Postoperative follow-up showed a normally positioned condyle in the glenoid fossae on radiological examination. Take Away Lessons: This case report describes a rare case of unilateral anterior condylar dislocation following an RTA without fractures associated with the mandible, outlining the clinical presentation, diagnostic approach, management and outcome.
