High School Students’ Perceptions and Motivation toward Using AI to Enhance English Speaking Skills
The application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies in education has a significant impact on language learning, particularly in the acquisition of English language skills. The purpose of this research was to explore high school students' attitudes towards the use of AI technologies to develop English-speaking ability, as well as their attitudes towards the application of AI to improve speaking skills. A quantitative descriptive statistics approach was used in the present research, with mean scores and standard deviations as the data analysis methods. 32 students of grade 11 studying at MAS Manbaul Huda participated in the research and were selected based on the criteria of having some experience with using AI technology for learning English. The research data were obtained with the help of a survey developed in accordance with TAM, SDT, and the framework suggested by Harris for measuring speaking skills. Students had a positive attitude toward using AI for English speaking exercises (M = 3.91), and motivation to use it was rather high (M = 3.80). Speaking in general was considered a skill to be supported by AI (M = 3.78).
