The Medemer Manifesto
''The Medemer Manifesto: Reconceptualizing State and Society Through Indigenous Political Philosophy" (2026) by Eliyas Kebede Zemedkun is a comprehensive, deep intellectual investigation and analytical exposition aimed at formally establishing Medemer as an independent school of thought, a multi-dimensional national political philosophy, and a home-grown African political framework. Designed to accelerate epistemic independence and avert intellectual colonization, the work presents a "Third Way" that seeks to reconcile historical political fractures, reject imported global ideologies, and solve complex socio-political and economic problems through an indigenous knowledge system. The work is all about Medemer, and this work consists of an extensive and deep analytical examination of the philosophical stance of Medemer asking critical questions about Medemer and trying to provide answers after conducting a deep intellectual investigation: What makes Medemer a philosophy? Is it an indigenous political philosophy or imported for that matter? If it is indigenous, what makes it an indigenous thought? How is it practically relevant to solve Ethiopian socio-political and economic problems, and what is its significance beyond political value in other domains of activity particularly, what would be its relevance in the academics and intellectual development of the generation if it is incorporated into the educational curriculum? To answer all the above questions, the author of the review has gone through a number of philosophical perspectives and schools of thought. The main objective of this endeavor is to establish intellectual justification through philosophical examination, and this writing critically evaluates the core tenets and principles of Medemer. By doing so, the writer of this review has intended to enhance Medemer as an independent school of thought and an indigenous African political philosophy not only in political discourse but equally relevant in other domains such as academics and socio-economic-cultural aspects. The author envisions making Medemer the centre of Ethiopian intellectual discussion, particularly when it comes to political scholarship and knowledge production process. Particularly, the author of this review sincerely believes the new generation needs to be equipped with an indigenous, home-made school of thought to solve the socio-economic and political problems of our nation. By instilling the values of indigenous political knowledge such as Medemer, we accelerate epistemic independence and avert intellectual colonization. Particularly, we Africans are in dire need of an Africanized school of thought to solve African problems. The generation is fed up with imported political and economic solutions. In a nutshell, this work aims to justify, examine, evaluate, and clarify the values and principles enshrined in Medemer, and evaluates the practical and theoretical relevance of Medemer to heal the historical and contemporary political fractures of the Ethiopian people. So, by making Medemer a multi-dimensional national political philosophy of the Ethiopian people, we can solve a number of socio-political problems. In addition to the rigorous philosophical analysis, the author has forwarded a few very strategically relevant policy recommendations at the end of the essay.
