Hukum Operasi Plastik dalam Perspektif Islam: Antara Kebutuhan Medis dan Keinginan untuk Mempercantik Diri
Plastic surgery is a medical development used to restore bodily functions and improve physical appearance. This raises legal questions in Islam, particularly in distinguishing procedures performed for medical needs from those undertaken solely for beautification. This study aims to analyze plastic surgery from an Islamic perspective by considering its purpose, necessity, benefits, and risks. The study employs a library research method with a descriptive-analytical approach. Data were obtained through an examination of the Qur’an, hadith, principles of Islamic jurisprudence, and relevant scholarly literature on Islamic law, medical ethics, and plastic surgery. The findings indicate that the legal status of plastic surgery depends on its purpose and underlying circumstances. Procedures performed to correct congenital abnormalities, injuries, burns, physical deformities, or impaired bodily functions may generally be permissible because they aim to remove harm and restore bodily function. In contrast, procedures performed solely to alter physical appearance for beauty without medical necessity may be prohibited because they can fall under the concept of taghyīr khalqillāh, meaning altering Allah’s creation. Therefore, determining the Islamic legal status of plastic surgery should consider the purpose, level of necessity, benefits, risks, and principles of maslahah (public interest) in Islam.
