Love in Philosophy
This preliminary survey examines major philosophical accounts of love from antiquity to the present by reading definitionsof love together with the activities through which love is realized. The corpus presents love as desire, goodwill, order, joy,neighbor-love, disclosure of value, growth, attention, reciprocal recognition of freedom, care, presence, and the constructionof a shared world. Crossing definition with realization makes the connotations of love more concrete than a list of definitionsalone. Eight provisional modes of realization emerge, with several philosophers occupying more than one mode. The resultis Version 01 for later comparison with fiction and public administration.
