Exploring the relationships between successful implementation drivers of Quality 4.0: evidence from developing countries

Purpose Digital transformation and automation are fundamental components of Quality 4.0, providing organizations with a strategic advantage by enhancing customer satisfaction and improving financial performance. The primary objective of this study is to identify the key drivers of Quality 4.0 implementation, evaluate their interrelationships using the decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) method and prioritize these drivers based on their significance and impact. A quantitative research approach is adopted to examine the determinants of organizational readiness for Quality 4.0 implementation in the manufacturing sectors of Iran and Malaysia. Design/methodology/approach This study investigates the critical determinants required for successful Quality 4.0 implementation in Iranian and Malaysian manufacturing industries and enables a comparative analysis using the DEMATEL methodology to identify the most and least influential indicators. Data were collected through purposive sampling from 14 experts representing diverse manufacturing industries. Findings The results indicate that big data, analytics, integrated management systems, vision and strategy, leadership, training, organizational culture and collaboration are the key drivers of successful Quality 4.0 implementation. The research follows a three-step methodology: (1) identification of relevant criteria through an extensive literature review, (2) validation of these criteria using the content validity ratio method and (3) application of the DEMATEL technique to analyze causal relationships and rank the drivers. Originality/value The DEMATEL analysis reveals that integrated management systems are the most influential and critical factor for the successful implementation of Quality 4.0, highlighting their central role in strengthening other organizational drivers, particularly in the context of developing countries.
